The Stanley Hotel Presents: The Shining Halloween

Used as a location for the film The Shining, the Stanley Hotel is hosting a Shining themed Halloween party in the month of October. It is a 4-day all-inclusive event that revolves around themes in the film. The event offers the attendees a full itinerary of tours, four course dinner party, and a ball celebration with music and dancing. Each ticket holder is given an event packet which includes a ticket, dinner menu, itinerary and a boxed gift set.

  • The Stanley Hotel is having difficulty generating reservations in their off-season and would like to offer unique events to increase reservation during slow months.

  • Using memorable takeaways from scenes in the film, I adapted a color palette, patterns, and illustrations that are recognizable for fans of The Shining. Because the event caters to film fans, environmental advertisements are placed inside movie theaters, and a tradeshow booth was created to gain traction for the travel industry.

  • The Shining-themed Halloween event at The Stanley Hotel will attract horror lovers, Stephen King fans, and pop culture enthusiasts. Predominantly millennials and Gen Xers, attendees seek immersive, unique experiences. The hotel's iconic film connection and historic charm also draw tourists and history buffs.

  • I created physical print and products for event attendees, as well as environmental advertisements that all follow a cohesive design system. To reach the audience best (film fans), the environmental advertisement is placed inside a movie theater. It offers the viewer a chance to take a photograph with iconic themes in the film (the twins, the Gold Room sandwich board, and the Redrum door) which can be posted on social media for further reach. Adapting memorable moments from the film and translating them to patterns, illustrations, color palettes that are recognizable to the patrons of the event.
